TRACK CYCLING CARNIVAL Presented by LATROBE CITY CYCLING CLUB

OLD SALE RD, NEWBOROUGH (Bob Whitford Cycling Track) $1000 in Prize Money & Prizes

        Sunday February 12th 2012

        SENIOR A, B & C – U/19 – U/17 – U/15

FEATURE EVENTS: 2000m BOB WHITFORD MEMORIAL WHEEL RACE, JUNIOR U/17 INVITATION SPRINT DERBY

Warragul's CC junior u/17 rider Jack Walk took out Sunday's Bob Whitford Memorial Wheel at the Latrobe City CC's TRU energy annual track carnival. Riding from the 200m in 2000m handicap event, Walk got lovely cart-up from the riders starting some 30-40m behind him, this group kept the strong group of back markers out of the finale equation by keeping the pace high and gathering the front markers with less than a lap to race. Just after getting the bell Dave Shanahan (170m) went for home opening a gap on now grown front bunch however Shanahan run was coming to an end on entering the home straight as Chris Henne (230m) moved up on the outside looking a winner when Walk (200m) put in a powerful finishing sprint to get past Henne and Shanahan who was kicking back to hold on to take 2nd with Henne 3rd. Lytton Sedley (350m) rode very heady race by picking the right wheels to follow coming to the last lap to finish on wheels of the first three to take 4th place. A number of the Whitford family were on hand to present the winners with trophies and prize money.

The carnival was another success going towards becoming an open event in very near future, however the weather did keep a number of riders away with intermitting showers all day long that saw only 17 of 22 events on the program completed. The total number of riders Male/Female Senior/U19/u/17 were 21 with 3 under 15 riders.
