Jerome
Bechaz heads for bigger things, read a story from his dad Phil....
Hi
everyone just wanted to update you all on Jerome and also the National
Junior Track Series Rd 3
After
the completion Jerome’s first season as a U17 rider we did an
evaluation on what was working and what could be improved.
Certain
aspects of Jerome’s coaching needed to be looked at and how certain
changes could be made to help him get closer to his stated goals.
Shortly
after ending his association with his current coach and commencing the
search for another, he was invited to try out with Hilton Clarke’s
National talent identification squad & CCCC coach.
Some
days after the try outs Hilton called to say that Jerome was invited to
train under him.
Jerome
Has now completed some 4 weeks with Hilton and his Squad and is looking
forward to the next 12 months
Hilton
Clarke is a high performance and demanding taskmaster but willing to
give his all to those who want to get the very best out of themselves.
Jerome will need to give 100 per cent to stay involved and on-board.
Riders
have a set 5 day program which involves both on the track and gym work.
This
program is designed to get you up to the national and
international level performance bar.
Hilton
tends specialize with track sprinters but also works with endurance
athletes as well it seems.
Having
said all that, to completely gain use of Hilton’s Program which
is via CCCC we have made the decision in Jerome’s best interest to
transfer Jerome to CCCC
This
will have a significant change in Jerome’s riding program and limit
his ability to complete locally
We
enquired about being a member of 2 clubs but this was not permitted
under Cycle Sport Victoria’s rules.
At
heart he will still be Latrobe rider who hopes to do the very best for
the Latrobe region and his friends at LCCC.
National
Junior Track Series Round 3
It
was off to the Silver Dome in Launceston, Tasmania for round 3 of the
NTJS.
This
innovative concept designed to increase the opportunities for junior
track riders to compete at a national level and supported major sponsors
Green Edge Cycling and Jayco
It
covers 6 rounds and is held all across Australia at the various city
velodromes
It’s
a heavy program on the day, if a rider completes in all events
Jerome’s
focus was the sprint
Jerome
qualified 7th fastest over the flying 200
The
fastest nine riders placed themselves in a 3 man 3 heat shoot out
The
winners progressing to the final
Jerome
was up against series leader and older u 17 competitor Jack Edwards from
Sydney, who has to be one most talented all-rounders going around in any
era
In
Fact he is as smart as bike rider as I have ever seen a machine indeed
when you watch his effort across all events.
Jerome’s
instruction was to not let him dictate terms and to attack him with a
Power full kick to the line whenever the moment presented itself.
It
did when Jack looked away with 3 bends to ride or 240
meters to go , Jerome attempted to grab be sprinters lane before
the final 2 bends but Jack was able hold enough ground for Jerome not to
be able to come down.
They
went head to head down the back straight with Jerome half a bike length
in front entering the final 2 bends.
As
they straightened for the line Jack Edwards over the last 10 meters
managed put his wheel in front to beat Jerome in a great semi-final.
Despite
not winning it was probably Jerome’s most significant result for
either track or road, so much so it had Jack Edwards coach come up and
comment “that is one of the best kicks and efforts against Jack he has
seen, that put him into danger”
Could
report more from this great concept and event run by Cycling Australia
but we will leave it for another day or another round
Cheers
Phil

BREAKING
NEWS Prize Money Doubles for

increase in sponsors allowing for an increase in the amount of prize
money on offer. Last year’s sole sponsor JNG Glass & Glazing has
upped its sponsorship dollar to $500 while new Moe Bike Hub owner and
Cartridge World Manager, Darryl Anderson has got behind the series and
is chipping in $500 also.
As
in the past the $5 entry fee has been incorporating back into the
overall prize pool
so with the current numbers showing up to race the
track the total prize pool could climb to well over $1500 this coming
year.
With
the numbers being seen on Monday night’s there will more than likely
be three divisions, A, B and C.
Divisions that will be run separately, with 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th in

year sees a change in events. The elimination event has been removed and
is replaced with a 3 lap sprint derby, with heats. Winners of each heat
(dependant on numbers in each division) will progress to a final race on
the night for each division. Events over the seven week series will
alternate between Sprint and Endurance events, just to mix things up a
bit.

will be other events run on the night that will not carry series points
so riders will get at least three races each Monday evening.
