Junior Gear Limitations

Junior Equipment Rules

Gearing restrictions apply to all Junior category-specific races.
  • J11/13 =  5.500 metres
  • J15      =  6.000 metres
  • J17      =  6.500 metres

These represent the maximum distance covered per crank revolution.

The following chart gives a number of gear combinations that suit the criteria. The calculations are based on a standard 700C rim with racing type slick HP tyre. However, it must be noted that this is a guide only and the actual distance covered will be dependent upon brand and type of tyre fitted, therefore the rider must ensure compliance by
measuring their own “roll-out”.

 Senior/Masters & J19 Track Racing Competence

It is expected that all cycling clubs have a method of developing, training and assessing track racing competence.

All Elite, Masters & J19 riders participating in their first track open are required to submit a support letter from their club which endorses the rider’s competence in track racing.

The Chief Commissaire of any track open can order that a rider of any category undergo an independent assessment of track racing competence prior to lodgment of their next open track entry.
