LINKS GIPPSLAND CLUBS | TRACK RACING BOB WHITFORD VELODROME, OLD SALE ROAD, NEWBOROUGH Racing/Training Every Monday Evening Day Light Savings Time @ 6.00pm ***Come and do a few laps behind the motor bike. A good way to gain leg speed for the summer criteriums. Cycling Track available to LCCC members at no charge, must produce ACF Licence at reception. Available Times to club members: Mondays: 2.00pm till 9.00pm, Tuesdays: 6.00am till 1.00pm, Wednesday 1.00pm till 9.00pm, Thursday 6.00am till 1pm, Friday 6.00am till 1.00pm, Sunday 1.00pm till 3.00pm. Bookings take priority over club + casual usage. NOTE!! The track is not available for use (racing/training) on the following dates for 2010/11 season. Sunday February 20, 2011 due to closure/reduced operating hours/bookings at the centre. Monday March 14 ,2011 (Labour Day weekend) Track Racing is great for improving bike handling, improves pedalling action and increases overall speed. There are number race disciplines for members to partake in, eg: Scratch, Motor Paced Scratch, Sprint Derby, Keirins (3 laps behind motor bike), Time Trials 200m Sprint and 500m TT and more. The club has five senior track bike for members to use, plus former member Bill Pace's track bike is at the clubs shed for members to use also. Track training/racing starts Monday October 3, 2011. Members new to track racing are welcomed.
The 2012 Omnium Series begins on Monday January 9, and runs for seven consecutive weeks. There are three Divisions A, B & C all divisions will be run separately, with 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th in each grade winning prize money.. Points will be: 7pts win, 6 pts second, 5 pts third, 4 pts 4th and unplaced 2 pts. Entry $5 per week. All prizes will be presented at the club Presentation Dinner in June. This year sees a change in events. The elimination event has been removed and replaced with a 3 lap sprint derby, with heats, winners of each heat (dependant on numbers in each division) will progress to a final race on the night and event order will be alternating Sprint and Endurance events, just mix thing up a bit.

S & J Cycles - Morwell 50 lap Madison, Monday March 26 @ 6.00pm The 2012 event looks to be as exciting as last years, with more track racers this year, we should see more teams. There will be a prizes for the first team to gain a lap, team finishing with the most sprint points and the top three places, thanks to S & J Cycles, Morwell. A free BBQ with drinks will follow for riders and spectators. As last year, teams will change above the dotted white line by either a tap on the back or when beside their team mate with a shout "you're in" Riders coming in must be just above dotted white line, while rider coming out must be above his/her team-mate. Riders coming in before tap on the back or team-mate beside them will loose one lap. Riders must change regularly, no rider can ride more than two (2) laps before bringing their partner in. Remember this is a fun night, we're not racing for a sheep or cattle station! Teams will be paired by LCCC track Handicapper.
Read Last Year's Event Report The final track race for the season on Monday evening, a fun 40 Lap Madison @ the Bob Whitford Cycling Track, Newborough saw eight teams contest the fast and furious Madison. The race started at a slow pace for the first couple of laps while riders got used to changing with their partners. Then the pace began to climb as riders changed and the race began in earnest and at the first sprint after 10 laps, Team Young Ones (Jerome Bechaz/ David Veldman) took the points ahead of Team Cranky (Roland Elsdon/Ken Whittaker) with Team PBK (Mick Krausz/Wayne Tunks) 3rd. A few laps later Team PBK were the first team to take a lap with teams Dark Horses (Justin Gravett/Phil Bechaz), Young Ones, Dream Team (John Kirk/Glenn Trevorrow), Team Cranky and Team I Don't Know (Sam Beveridge/Jim Jones) all on the same lap. The lapped teams were Team Garmin (John Taylor/Nic Anderson) and Team Danger (Eric Veldman/Zoe Veldman). As the race went on riders got used to changing more efficiently and more laps were taken by the stronger teams and by half race distance there were still 5 teams all on the same laps, so it looked like the race was going to be won on sprint points only. Team Young Ones began to extend there legs to lead by a 3/4 of a lap before Team PBK and Dark Horses began to close down the break that saw Team Cranky drop a lap, leaving 4 teams on the lead lap. With ten laps to race Team Young Ones led with 7 points, from Team Dark Horses on 4 pts and Team PBK with 3 pts. The bell rang for the final lap that saw Team Young Ones take the final points from Team PBK and Team Dark Horse filling 3rd place. The final wash up saw Team Young One (10 pts) 1st, Team Dark Horses 2nd on a count back from Team PBK each with 5 points, followed by Team I Don't Know coming 4th, then The Dream Team 5th (No Points). One lap down was Team Cranky followed by Team Danger with -2 laps with Team Garmin -4 laps. There were some prizes handed out and the evening was finished with a BBQ and drinks with Cakes and Easter Eggs thanks to Glenn & Cherry Trevorrow.
